LOERIEHOFCOTTAGES · OVERBERG

Three cottages,
one long dirt road.

A working wheat and sheep farm in the Overberg. Each cottage stands out of sight of the others, sharing one dam, one fire pit and a great deal of sky.

The cottages

Pick the one that suits your party and book it on Airbnb. Dates, prices and payment all stay there — this page exists to tell you what a listing cannot.

Die Werf

The old manager's house, at the top of the rise, with the whole valley below it. Three bedrooms, a kitchen built for actual cooking, a fireplace that draws properly, and a west-facing stoep that is the entire reason people rebook.

II

Die Skuur

A converted barn tucked behind the dam wall, so you hear water rather than anything else. High ceilings, a wood stove, and a bath set under a window that looks out at nothing but wheat.

One room and a bathroom, down at the old pump house, farthest from everything including us. Made for two people, a bottle of something, and no plans of any kind.

When to come

The Overberg is a different place every two months, and most people book without knowing that. Pick a month.

Before you come

The questions we are asked most, answered here so nobody has to message us at nine at night.

The last 6 km is gravelAny car manages it in dry weather. After heavy winter rain, bring something with a bit of clearance.
There is no mobile signalThere is Starlink in every cottage and it is fast. WhatsApp calls work perfectly; ordinary phone calls do not work at all.
The power goes offEvery cottage runs on solar and batteries, so you will probably not notice. Lights, plugs, wifi and the fridge stay on regardless.
The water is from a boreholeIt is drinkable. It tastes faintly of iron for the first glass and then you stop noticing it entirely.
The nearest shop is 22 minutesBring what you need. We leave bread, milk, eggs, butter and coffee in each cottage before you arrive.
It is a working farmThere are sheep, two dogs and a tractor that starts early in harvest season. In January that means about half past five.

Marius and Hanlie

We farm wheat and sheep here, as Marius's family has since 1954. The cottages came later, when the children left and three empty buildings started to feel like a waste of good roofs.

We live in the farmhouse you pass on the way in. You will probably meet us on arrival and then not again unless you want to. Some guests want the tour and the whole family history; some want to be left completely alone for four days. Both are entirely fine and you do not have to tell us which.

Ask us where to swim, which farm stall is worth the drive, and when the canola is out. We have firm opinions about all three.

See you at the gate.
